Going Green
At Easton, we believe environmental stewardship is everyone’s responsibility. So we’re committed to finding ways to increase eco awareness and reduce our environmental footprint.
We know that change takes time. But we also know that small changes can make a big difference. That’s why we’re going, going green. It’s a process. And an evolving one.
As we strive to do our part to preserve and protect the planet, we’re delighted to share the steps we’re taking. And we invite you to join us on the journey to greater sustainability and greendom!
Recycle & Reuse
We have 35 co-mingled totes for recycling glass and plastic throughout the property. Every desk in every office has a copy paper recycling receptacle. And two of our loading docks house cardboard recycling compactors. While restaurant waste can sometimes contaminate cardboard, we’re increasing the percentage recycled. Plans to add more cardboard-only dumpsters are in the works.
If you have used batteries, bring them to the Guest Services Desk. We’ll make sure they’re properly recycled, too.
Smart Cars
Easton Security and Operations drive two of the first electric smart cars sold in Columbus. Purchased at Germain Mercedes-Benz of Easton, the cars get a reported 80 miles per charge. They fit two to a parking place. And together with a Segway, they’ve enabled Security to decrease the use of large, gas-guzzling trucks.
If you’re driving a smart car, you’ll find a two-stall electrical charging station on the second level of the East Parking Garage. And there’s no charge to our customers!
Saving Trees
Easton collateral is primarily printed on recycled paper. When that’s not an option, we use paper that is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, which supports the growth of responsible forest management worldwide. We send outdated directories, coupon books and other print materials to a recycling facility. And internal memos and forms are circulated electronically to conserve paper.
Energy Conservation
Dyson Airblades are installed in the lower level restrooms inside the Station Building. They dry hands in just 12 seconds, remove 99.9% of bacteria from the air, and use up to 80% less energy than traditional hand dryers.
We’ve converted to LED lighting in all four parking garages, and added over 15,000 LED bulbs throughout the property. Automatic lighting controls are installed in utility, storage and other rooms used by Management and Operations. And during the holidays, Easton’s iconic 50’ Town Square Christmas Tree is outfitted with LED lights, using 1/6 the electricity of regular bulbs!
Our escalators are equipped with sensory technology to detect traffic and use, reducing the power needed for continuous operation. And an Energy Management System is in place to ensure that all our lighting and mechanical equipment are aligning energy use and operation with actual need.
Together, these efforts will result in an annual savings of over 2,211,663 kWh of electricity. That’s enough to power 193 Ohio homes! And we’ll reduce carbon emissions by over 1,589 metric tons.
Green Support
Easton is proud to support community organizations that think globally and act locally. We host an annual Earth Day event to raise eco awareness featuring local environmental organizations and many eco-friendly tenants.
We are consistently exploring earth-friendly practices and possibilities. Thank you for your partnership and support as we keep going, going green!
